Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES: Primary duties include running through a daily battle-rhythm of checks and other O&M activities on a large virtualized environment, viewing and responding to events reflected in the various management tools, server patch management, attending various meetings (team, staff, change, configuration, etc.), participating in forward thinking activities and automating. Daily reviews of systems to ensure normal functions are performing properly as well as execution of daily/weekly system health checks. System audit log reviews as required. The Systems Engineer will be required to coordinate efforts with other work centers and personnel to resolve Remedy Incidents related to systems and supporting infrastructure. Primary duty hours fall between 0700 and 1700 with shift work required to assist with after-hours maintenance activities.  Other System Engineering duties may be required. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Requires bachelor's degree and seven to nine years of related experience.   Must have strong relevant systems administration and engineering skills in a large virtualized environment.   Good networking and storage background with an emphasis on security.    Must have a strong analytical background with accompanying troubleshooting skills. Strong communication skills also required.    Candidates must have Security+ certification and be enrolled in Continuing Education (CE).     Must have an active DoD Secret Security Clearance.   Preferred Qualifications:   Previous work experience in a virtualized environment (specifically VMware) as a Windows/Linux System Engineer supporting a large Enterprise with knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, Windows 2003/2008, Linux/UNIX Operating Systems, EMC Storage, Symantec Netbackup and SCCM Patch Management solutions.   Prefer a candidate with an ability to quickly adapt to new situations, a strong commitment to a team environment, a capacity to work with little supervision and the willingness to learn new technologies. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Normal demands associated with an office environment. Ability to work on computer for long periods, and communicate with individuals by telephone, email and face to face. Some travel may be required.
