Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: BIT Systems, Inc., a CACI company, is currently looking for a Senior Software Engineer for our Dulles, VA office, to help modernize, enhance, and maintain a mission essential, dynamic web based tool that is currently used by 40,000+ users across the IC and DoD communities.   RESPONSIBILITIES: The qualified candidate will support an agile development team that is actively transforming a mission essential, legacy web application with modern, innovative, scalable, and high-performing capabilities.  Responsibilities include: - Develop prototypes to support design validation - Analyze critical software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints - Utilize industry proven design patterns and open source tools - Develop concepts, identify creative solutions to customer requirements, and assess feasibility of these solutions - Identify creative solutions to improve system and product offerings - Research, design, and develop critical and increasingly complex computer software systems - Work with engineering and management team to collectively meet program requirements - Design, develop, integrate, test, and maintain mission essential web applications - Participate in operations and sustainment and user support activities as necessary - Document software designs - Conduct code reviews - Write and maintain unit tests within existing frameworks - Mentor/guide more junior team members EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Typically requires bachelor‘s degree or equivalent and 10 to 12 years of related experience.   Required: - Bachelor‘s degree with 10+ years of experience with full life-cycle software development (analysis, design, development, test, deployment, maintenance) required. - Proven ability to work in a dynamic, real-time environment with rapidly changing priorities is required. - Proven ability to support surge initiatives to ensure delivery of mission functional requirements. - Familiar with the Agile Scrum software development methodologies. - Ability to break down high-level tasking into smaller units of work and self-manage development progress in working toward set deadlines - Experience applying industry best practices to ensure system performance, reliability, scalability and security required. - Java programming experience in a Unix/Linux environment is required. - Experience with Linux shell scripting required. - Experience with continuous integration and software CM processes / tools (Subversion, GIT, JIRA, Confluence). - Experience with the design and development of Object Oriented systems required. - Experience with web application design and development is required. - Experience with web services required. - Experience with Java-based third-party software components/libraries (Hibernate, Spring, Apache Commons, etc.) preferred. - Experience with the following technologies: - Java, JavaScript (required), - VMWare (required) - Node.js or Angular.js  (required) - GXT/GWT (preferred) - HTML, CSS, KML, SOAP, REST, XML (preferred) - JMS (preferred) - Hibernate, Spring and PostgreSQL (preferred) - ActiveMQ, Tomcat, Apache, REDIS, JBoss, Storm, GeoServer (preferred) - OpenLayers (desired) - OWF (desired) - Strong troubleshooting/problem solving skills required. - Strong communication skills - both written and verbal required. - Time management and organizational skills required. - Capability to articulate design concepts and technology benefits is required.   Desired: - Front End/GUI experience; Experience with Responsive Web Design. - HTML5, CSS3, Java Script experience. - Experience with one or more modern JavaScript frameworks/libraries is a plus (e.g. Angular, React) - Experience with RPMs and/or Puppet - Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS). - Experience with container technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes) - Experience with chat protocols (XMPP, IRC, etc.) - Experience with distributed messaging, message broker and message routing / data transport solutions. - Experience with one or more SQL databases (e.g. MySQL, Postgres, Oracle), and SOLR. - VMWare background and basic understanding of Virtualization. - Experience with architecture development and documentation. - Experience with ICD 503 accreditation process. - Experience deploying applications across multiple networks, adhering to NRO Site Integration Standards (NSIS) processes, milestones and Contract Deliverables. - Experience building/deploying/maintaining systems within NRO C2S cloud environment. - Experience using Docker/Containers. - Experience working with security-hardened baselines and CTPs for A&A process. - Ability to work with Security Engineering and provide oversight to A&A activities.   PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Normal demands associated with an office environment. Ability to work on computer for long periods, and communicate with individuals by telephone, email and face to face. Some travel may be required.
