Job Description

Position Summary:   The successful candidate will be a part of a team responsible for all phases of delivering end-to-end computer processing systems from design to deployment and support. The responsibilities include developing, purchasing, building, integrating, delivering, and maintaining these systems. Additionally, as the enterprise matures, the candidate will participate in design and implementation of new capabilities to monitor, maintain, and support the mission such as configuration management tools and workflows, developing dashboards and reports, and contributing to the evolution of the enterprise.  As part of the team, the Engineer may be required to learn and occasionally contribute on a variety of tasks including DSP development, system administration, and other activities such as inventory control, shipping and handling, and administrative tasks.    Duties and Responsibilities: - Provides system engineering support for multiple scientific/engineering/DSP production systems, to include system build, delivery, installation, and test - Install, configure, and maintain servers (services, settings, directories, storage, etc) - Integrating with non-IT hardware and peripherals - Configuring and maintaining network switches, routers, and firewalls - Perform performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required - Identify system requirements for operations and security, and work with other engineers and staff to develop designs and integrate components Generate design artifacts consistent with customer specific readiness process and good engineering practices, to include the support of requirements, use cases design documents, engineering drawings, and test plans Required Qualifications: - Typically requires B.S. degree or equivalent and 5 to 7 years of related experience. - Degree in system engineering, computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or similar. - Red Hat or CentOS administration and troubleshooting - Linux scripting (bash, python, perl, etc.) - Configuration management with Subversion or similar - Solid understanding of Internet protocols to include TCP/IP, HTTP/S, DNS, SSL, SSH, and SMTP - Solid understanding of computer networking and network architecture principles - TS/SCI clearance Desired Qualifications: - Understanding of RF, to include gain concepts, link budget analysis, and digital signal processing concepts - A working knowledge of maintaining and configuring virtual machines - System configuration with Puppet, Ansible, and/or Cobbler - Experience with Cisco switches/firewalls/routers - Working knowledge of using and maintaining MySQL databases. - Basic experience with using RF test equipment such as an oscilloscope and spectrum analyzer - Experience with Elasticsearch/Logstash/Kibana or similar log management products, as well as data management and visualization tools - Functional knowledge of security requirements for classified environments   PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Normal demands associated with an office environment. Ability to work on computer for long periods, and communicate with individuals by telephone, email and face to face.
