POSITION SUMMARY: Researches, organizes, writes, edits, and produces technical data for major publication projects. Organizes material and writes descriptive copy according to standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology. May participate in the establishment of style guidelines and standards for texts and illustrations. May provide work leadership for lower level employees. RESPONSIBILITIES: - Revises or writes material that is mostly standardized for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance IT Products. The incumbent receives assignment and technical information from a supervisor or government manager, may be provided notes or manuals containing operating procedures and details, and may observe production, developmental or experimental activities to expand or verify the provided operating procedures and details. - Conduct in-depth interviews with State Department personnel in order to document requirements, user manuals and training material. - This worker accesses product catalogs, drawings and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment, may have access to blueprints, sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail. - This writer organizes material and completes writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology, may maintain records and files of work and revisions, may select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material, assist in laying out material for publication, and arrange for typing, duplication and distribution of material. - This writer may provide translation of detailed requirements into technical documentation. Work with developers to produce system documentation. Understanding of IT System Lifecycle. Provide technical editing for product deliverables.Abilities or Experience: - Create and follow standardized project processes and documentation for custom developed applications. - Experience documenting, demoing and or training custom software applications from inception to completion for Waterfall and AGILE projects. - Meeting ISO-9001 audit and CMMI Level 3 requirements. - In a SELC or SDLC life cycle software development. - Collaborate with business stakeholders, developers, and testers to ensure that every perspective was represented in the application‘s documentation. Technical Writing and Training Profile Experience creating online help systems using Madcap Flare (Adobe RoboHelp experience is equivalent) - Created quick reference guides, training presentations, standard operating procedure, work instructions, procedural and process documents. - Product management. - Provide in-class training on an as needed basis. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Typically requires bachelor‘s degree or equivalent, and zero to two years of related (technical writing/editing) experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Normal demands associated with an office environment. Ability to work on computer for long periods, and communicate with individuals by telephone, email and face to face. Some travel may be required.
