Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:   BITS is a CACI company that doesn't just hire you for a job, CACI/BITS hires you for a career. We are currently seeking an experienced Software Developer to join our elite team. This individual will provide software design & development expertise in support of both maintenance and new feature development tasks for a satellite modeling system. Developers are expected to possess a strong technical background as well as being highly directed and motivated.     RESPONSIBILTIES: - Writes, modifies, and debugs software for server application. - Identifies and reports problems in new and existing software. - Recreates reported software problems to facilitate solutions. This includes validating the fix for the software problem. - Resolves customer complaints with software and responds to suggestions for software modifications or enhancements. - Assists in the preparation of internal software design documentation. - Develops the critical components of the solution, including but not limited to, security, rules infrastructure, custom adapter implementation, and application interfaces. - Uses source debuggers and visual development environments. - Architects and codes multi-environment system solutions utilizing various programming languages. - Profiles, analyzes and optimizes the software he/she is responsible for implementing. - Employs best practices for design, development, unit testing and test plan development. - S upports completed software throughout the Software Development Life Cycle and in production. - Seeks to improve personal job related knowledge and departmental process by studying state-of-the-art development tools, programming techniques, and computing equipment; participating in educational opportunities, and reading professional publications.   EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: - Minimum of BS or higher degree in engineering, computer science, information technology, or related field - Five plus years of experience in C and C++ design/development - Full software development life cycle experience in a mission-centric environments. (Requirements assessment, design, coding, testing and production support) - Must have strong C/C++ knowledge and debugging skills - Excellent S/W design skills and knowledge of advanced data structures - Experience working with a pre-existing and large code baselines - Excellent organizational and communication skills - Ability to work effectively within a team environment - Ability to assess and leverage new technologies as applicable - General Web Development Constructs (HTML, CSS, XML) - Software configuration management processes / tools - Candidate must have the appropriate DOD 8570 certification Desired Qualifications - SQL and General DBMS Constructs (Schema Design, Triggers/Procs, Sequences, Relational Design) - Experience with Solaris/Unix/Linux and Windows Operating Systems - Experience with Sybase - Familiarity with Java     PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Normal demands associated with an office environment. Ability to work on computer for long periods, and communicate with individuals by telephone, email and face to face.
