Position Summary: Seeking applied geophysicist to support sensor development for near surface seismic imaging Duties and Responsibilities: The candidate will be expected to improve our understanding of the interaction of near surface wave fields and targets in the shallow subsurface. The work will involve experimental characterization of components of surface displacement from multiple seismic sources in the near and far field. This work is conducted at high frequencies and short ranges relative to traditional geophysical techniques. Related models will be developed and the candidate can expect to interact with various government groups, private contractors, and universities in order to guide model development or aid in validating modeling results. Main tasks include performing seismic field and laboratory data collections, experiment design, data processing, signal and image processing of geophone or optical vibration data. Additional duties include working closely with internal and external customers and presentation of data to peers and scientific community. Required Qualifications: Requires masters‘s degree in geophysics or seismology or equivalent and 7-9 years of related experience. Proficient with scientific computing programs such as MATLAB, Python or similar. Experience with full waveform inversion and image forming techniques. Desired Qualifications: Experience with optical interferometry. Ph.D. in related field of study. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Normal demands associated with an office environment. Ability to work on computer for long periods, and communicate with individuals by telephone, email and face to face. Some travel may be required.
