POSITION SUMMARY: Engineering of system administrator related solutions for various project and operational needs. Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements. Configure the system's active directory structure and the system's security policies by implementing group policy objects. Ability to develop PowerShell scripts in the Microsoft Windows 7/10 and Windows Server 2008/2012 environments for automating software configuration and installation. Develop and maintain software installation procedures, software/lab configuration procedures, user policies, and field operational manuals. Establish virtual machine environment for testing, configuration management, and software development. Perform backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media and classification, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary. Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure/Add new services as necessary. Maintain lab environment and monitor equipment status. The ARAT-SE has the requirement for one individual to join the Software Engineering Branch in support of the Prophet Spiral 1 System as a system administrator. Incumbent will be located in APG, MD. Incumbent must have experience working as a system administrator, be a quick learner with strong analytical and problem solving skills, be resourceful, and be able to work independently in support of on-going projects managed by the Prophet Government Project Lead (GPL). Under general supervision, maintains data files and control procedures for a complex system of networked computers or for a single group of microcomputers linked to a host workstation, or mainframe. Responsible for system security and data integrity. Assigns passwords and monitors use of resources, backs up files as required and responds to management requests for information. RESPONSIBILTIES: Establishes and maintains user accounts, assigns file permissions and establishes password and account policies; installs, upgrades, configures, tests, maintains and supports operating system software in a production environment. Reviews performance logs and monitors system performance. Troubleshoots and resolves basic level system hardware, software and communications problems; may perform configurations and adjustments to enhance database file capacity; performs automated and manual backup and restore processes. Installs, configures and tests software packages. Performs daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups. Performs daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary. Performs regular file archival and purge as necessary. Creates, changes, and deletes user accounts per request. REQUIRED SKILLS: Knowledge of the Windows 7/10 operating system, Windows Server 2008/2012 operating system, Linux operating system, SQL Server 2008/2012, PowerShell scripting, Active Directory, Group Policy Objects, VMWare, Remote Desktop, and DNS configuration. Knowledge of IT hardware (server, laptops, desktops, network switches, encryption devices, and peripherals). Strong Visio, PowerPoint, Excel and Word skills Excellent written and spoken communication skills Ability to follow security rules EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in Network and Systems Administration, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or commensurate military intelligence experience Certification in A+ and Security+ 2-3 years practical experience directly associated with system administration. Must be a US citizen, possess a current TS/SCI Security clearance, and be able to obtain an NSA.NET account (polygraph required). PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Normal demands associated with an office environment. Ability to work on computer for long periods, and communicate with individuals by telephone, email and face to face. Some travel may be required.
