Job Summary/Responsibilities:   The successful applicant for cloud engineer will be a self-motivated, entrepreneurial specialist that can function well within a small team of highly technical engineers.  The role requires a deep understanding of virtualization, server administration, networking, multi-tiered applications, and key operating systems applications and services running on virtualized and non-virtualized platforms. The role's primary focus is the engineering of solutions to provide a secure, robust cloud environment for the company's internal customers.  This is to be done by leveraging software development and open source solutions to automate the many tasks required to enable and manage the company's different implementations.  In addition, the Cloud Operations engineer's operational service responsibilities include complex problem resolution, creation and improvement of procedures, facilitation of communication with the customer base, and providing various technical solutions to the business.  Additional operational responsibilities include providing oversight to several hosted systems and databases, and network troubleshooting.  Engineering and documentation duties include researching, proofing, and authoring technical documentation.  This is a great career opportunity for a highly motivated individual who wants to extend and utilize his or her solid and broad skills. Experience/Skills Required:   This role is critical to the company's Cloud deployment strategy and as such requires both depth and breadth in most of the technologies leveraged in a complex data center environment to support multi-tiered applications.  Furthermore, a solid understanding of the components required to provide high-availability application and networking environment is required. This role requires a talented person with a strong work ethic and the following qualifications:   Required: Experience engineering solutions in AWS and Azure cloud environment, including implementation of direct connections, deployment of custom systems, load balancing, routing, transit networks, and multi-tenant solutions. - 5+ years' experience in a 24×7 high-availability production environment. - 7+ years System Administration in a complex enterprise environment spanning multiple datacenters, multiple (10 or greater) remote locations, supporting over 250 Microsoft Windows and Linux Servers. - An in-depth understanding of TCP/IP LAN/WAN networking technologies and troubleshooting techniques. - Operational support experience with relational and database technologies such as Oracle and SQL.  Includes installation, initial configuration, and creating backup procedures as part of database support requirements. - Enterprise operational experience with hardware and software based firewalls, load balancers and proxy servers.  Requires the ability to configure, maintain, and troubleshoot the identified technologies. - Enterprise experience with intrusion detection systems and network and server security hardening.  Ability to understand and apply STIGs to devices, operating systems, and applications. - 5+ years of engineering experience with cloud and virtualization technologies (AWS, Azure, OpenStack, vCloud and KVM). - Experience in monitoring, metrics collection, and reporting using open source tools. - Good knowledge of scripting languages such as JSON, PowerShell, Perl, Python and PHP etc. - Good understanding of PKI. Hardware Security Module (HSM) management experience a plus. - Excellent organizational skills, and oral and written communication skills. Ability to work with minimal supervision, making decisions based upon dynamic priorities, schedules and an understanding of business initiatives. - Familiarity with cloud automation or configuration management tools such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible, etc. - Familiarity with Object Oriented programming languages (C#, C++, Java) and deployment management tools such as git, TFS, SVN - Ability to work collaboratively on team projects as well as individually on assigned tasks. - Critical attention to detail, thoroughness and documentation. - A thorough background check and references will be required. - BS degree or Equivalent experience. Desired: - Industry certifications, preferably cloud specific to AWS and Azure - Good understanding of Software Development Lifecycle - Security compliance experience such as ITIL, PCI, ISO 27001 or SOX
