Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: This is an immediate hire for a fully funded position supporting the  Distributed Ground System-Experimental (DGS-X) system at Langley AFB, VA.   RESPONSIBILTIES: Support Distributed Ground System-Experimental (DGS-X) system operations and promotes AF Distributed Common Ground System (AF DCGS, AN/GSQ-272 Sentinel) modernization.   Leads the maintenance and operations at a virtualized data center using VMWare with Dell/EMC server and storage hardware.   Charged with managing the installation, support and maintenance of servers, tuning system performance, installing system wide software and allocating mass storage space.   Additional duties include planning for, and responding to, service outages and other problems.    Directs the routine performs system checks (processes, services, network, storage) to ascertain overall system health.  Applies operating system updates and configuration changes.    Installs and configures new software.   Answers technical queries and is responsible for security, documenting configuration management, troubleshooting any reported problems and conducting system performance tuning.    Provides technical guidance to Tier 1, 2 and 3 personnel.    Responsible for the integrity, confidentiality and availability of information systems through patch management, antivirus installation and signature file updates and data archival/restoral.    Conducts systems analysis and development to keep systems as current as possible with changing technology.   Engineers processes and procedures for remote administration and installation while advising on the technology and tools to efficiently execute these tasks.    Carries out above assigned duties working cohesively with other assigned system administrators, engineers, and network/communications technicians.    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS   Must have at least a current Top Security Clearance with the ability to obtain SCI access within 90 days of hire.   DODD 8570 certification or a Security + within 90 days of hire   DESIRED SKILLS   Experience with multiple interactions of the following technologies:   Microsoft Server 2012 Microsoft Windows 7 Linux VMWare Data Center Storage Management Puppet               EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Requires a Masters degree or ten years of equivalent experience. Enrollment in an associated Continuous Education Program   PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Normal demands associated with an office environment. Ability to work on computer for long periods, and communicate with individuals by telephone, email and face to face. Some travel may be required.
