We are looking for experienced, innovative, and motivated IT Specialists to support enablement AUAB-379th Qatar, AFCENT’s mission objectives.

CACI has an excellent opportunity for an experienced, self-directed, Telephone Technician II (Strategic DSN Switch). This position is in support of a Department of Defense (DoD) organization, AUAB-379 ECS, located OCONUS in Qatar.  This position is required to travel OCONUS. 

What You’ll Get to Do:

  • Supervises and manages the daily activities of configuration and operation of business systems which may be mainframe, mini, or client/server based.  Provide Intermediate “hands on” work experience in support of installations, repair, and troubleshooting or maintenance of communications systems or equipment. Must have the technical knowledge to solve complex problems, understand the interrelationships of circuits, and be able to exercise independent judgment in performing tasks in support of communications systems or equipment.
  • Performs a variety of difficult assignments associated with monitoring and controlling Strategic DSN telephone and switch tasks which include: Provide administration, management, operation, and maintenance of telephone switch and associated equipment. Supported capabilities include integrated voicemail systems, remote switching systems, optical carrier systems, rectifiers and rectifier battery systems, inverters, power supplies, UPS, or other telephone sub-systems.
  • Support equipment installation, placement, or relocation, including system checkout, test, and maintenance. Subtasks shall include: Operate the telephone switch and associated hardware respectively IAW manufacturer manuals; Start and configure the switch, respond to console messages, execute available diagnostic routines, and monitor system status for each switch; Power down and start up the system(s): mount and remove disks, cartridges, or tapes; select input/output files; load programs, files, and database(s); and perform recoveries from machine stops or malfunctions. Perform disk, cartridge, or tape backup of the switch memory every seven calendar days. Perform system/data administration on all equipment and software.
  • Perform software functions and translations for any add, move, change, delete, query of a circuit or system data, directory assistance, service order, trouble assistance, records administration, and call usage documentation.
  • Perform minor installations as part of O&M and assist during major installations.
  • Perform traffic measurements and analysis/studies for the telephone switching system(s).
  • Perform call detail recording and analysis/studies for the telephone switching system(s). Provide remote troubleshooting and diagnostics for selected switching systems and third-party vendor equipment at sites in USAFCENT’s AOR.  Provide hardware repair and replacement for services selected switching systems and third-party vendor equipment. Provide routine replacement of failed equipment.
  • Support DSN telephone equipment and systems include, but are not limited to: Avaya Communication Server (CS) 2100 Telephone Switch System; Avaya CS 1000 Telephone Switch System; OPTera Optical Metro Synchronous Optical Networking (SONET) Multiplexers; Nortel Meridian Cabinet Remote Module-SONET Remote Telephone Switch; 48 VDC Battery, Rectifier, and Inverter Systems; SecureLogic Enterprise Telephony Management System; Dialogic Corporation (formerly Veraz) DTX-600 Digital Circuit Multiplication Equipment and associated ION Security Devices; FEI--Zyfer and Symmetricom GPS Time and Frequency Systems; VENTRAQ Net Plus and Unique Communications CAIRS Telecommunications Management Systems; Callware Technologies Callagra/Meridian Mail/Call Pilot voicemail systems; Analog and Digital Lines, Switch Interface Systems, and Associated Equipment; Tellabs echo-cancellation and transcoder compression equipment; T-Metrix operator consoles; Sonus VX Series Voice Exchange Equipment; REDCOM switches; Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Equipment (AVAYA AURA AS-5300, Cisco Unified Communication Manager, etc.); Cassidian E911 System Defense Switched Network (DSN) Equipment

More About the Role:

The successful candidate must be able to communicate clearly and succinctly both written and orally, and present products and ideas in a business-like manner.  The candidate will be required to work in dynamic fast paced environments that require team interaction and coordination of efforts.  The candidate must be experienced in interfacing with both client managers and system users.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
  • Currently hold an adjudicated Secret Clearance and be able to maintain
  • BA/BS + 6 years recent specialized or AA/AS +9 years recent specialized or a major cert + 11 years recent specialized experience
  • CompTIA Security + (IAT Level II or greater)
  • Must have switch certification on Nortel SL-100 or Meridian I/Succession 1000 family of switches and/or completed Avaya Professional Credential Program
  • Specialized experience in:
    • Nortel SL-100
    • Meridian I/Succession 1000 Family of Switches
    • AVAYA AURA AS-5300
    • Voice Over Internet Protocol Equipment (Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Cisco Unified Voice Gateway and Cisco Analog Voice Gateways)

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
  • ITIL v3 – Foundation
  • CCNP
  • Experience supporting DoD / AFCENT
  • Experience working with DISA and Circuit Actions
