You will help the U.S. Navy buy great ships. You will directly support NAVSEA Ship Design Managers in the areas of deck and mission systems, including cranes, ramps, hatches and other cargo handling systems, rigging, winches, mooring, anchoring, towing, and UUV,USV and boat handling systems.
More About the Role:
You will develop deck and mission system requirements and engineer basic configurations for new ship designs, and refinements on existing ship designs, including handling systems for containers, wheeled vehicles, towed arrays and buoyant craft, using expertise with ship integration of these systems and associated wire and synthetic rope characteristics. You will check shipyard calculations and drawings for compliance with ABS and/or Navy standards. You will evaluate and resolve trial cards, and troubleshoot delivered mission systems. Using CAD tools, you will develop mission systems arrangements, and write associated specifications. We are currently working on over a dozen existing and future ship classes, including the CVN, LCS, LSC, LHA, LHD, EPF, T-AO, T-AGOS, T-ARC, T-AKR and AS.
You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
BS degree in Naval Architecture or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college
15+ years of experience with ship design and/or operation
5+ years of ship deck or mission systems specification or integration
Experience with applicable American Bureau of Shipping Rules
Experience with Military Sealift Command ships
US Citizen with a Secret Clearance or Secret Clearance eligibility
Experience creating 2-D drawings in AutoCAD or similar software
Demonstrated ability to lead a group of engineers on a project
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly in English
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
MS degree in Naval Architecture or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college
Experience utilizing US Navy Deck Systems design standards
Experience with Naval combatants
Experience developing 3-D CAD models
