POSITION SUMMARY: Maintains operation of Local Area (LAN), Wide Area (WAN) and virtual private networks (VPN) for the Department of Homeland Security, Customs & Border Protection (CBP) Air and Marine Operations Center (AMOC) systems and circuits. Performs preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of specialized radar processing hardware and associated networks. Maintains Dell Computer Systems, Servers and workstations; Avaya CM-2008 teleph one switch and database; Ciena 6500 fiber system; Juniper J6350 Radar Router; AVTEC DSPatch 640 Communications Switching System; Overwatch (formerly Austin Information Systems (AIS)) computerized radio control system; National Law Enforcement Communications Center (NLECC) VHF Radio Internet Protocol System (RIPS); Western Air Defense Sector (WADS) Magaplex 2100; various personal computers and peripherals; and various electronic, optical and mechanical equipment. Assists telephone companies in fault isolation of problems as they occur for radio, radar, digital data, and voice telephone circuits. Work rotating and unusual duty shifts and subject to standby and short notice mandatory overtime covering 24/7/365 work schedule. Subject to travel (foreign and domestic) for equipment installation, removal and repair. RESPONSIBILTIES: - Troubleshoot and repair computer systems. - Troubleshoot and repair radio networks. - Troubleshoot and repair Telecommunications systems. - Monitor equipment and circuit status. - Identify and reset or replace malfunctioning equipment. - Complete the Technician Certification Annually - Accept technical direction from the Senior Electronics Technician, System Engineer, and other senior technical personnel, including persons from other companies developing systems for the AMOC. - Complete special projects as assigned according to scheduled completion dates. - Understand data flow from facility demark to the operations workstations. SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS - Must be a U.S. citizen - Must obtain and maintain a defense investigative (civilian) SECRET security clearance. - Must be able to successfully pass a CBP Background Investigation - Must be able to pull floor tile; run cable in both overhead and under floor cable trays and/or conduit. - Four year experience in Computer systems support, data processing and voice/data systems. - Familiar with running and termination data cables (copper, Cat 6, fiber-optics) - Directly related formal education may be substituted for experience. - Must be in good physical health EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: - High School diploma or equivalent. - AS degree in Electronics Technology or equivalent Military training desired. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Normal demands associated with an office environment. Ability to work on computer for long periods, and communicate with individuals by telephone, email and face to face. Some travel may be required.
