Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Under minimal supervision, provides system administration for the complex web and database server environment used to support the Navy PPBE system utilizing the PBIS (Programming Budgeting Information System) database and associated application programs.  RESPONSIBILTIES: Manage daily requirements of PBIS database network, including installation/configuration management of server environment, upgrade/update and patch planning and scheduling, coordination with customer agencies, and administrative review of hardware and software requirements for maintenance of licensing and warranty currency and applicability. Capable of configuring and maintaining off-site servers via remote access. Reviews performance logs and monitors system performance. Troubleshoots and resolves hardware, software and system communications problems; performs adjustments to enhance system capability and efficiency; performs automated and manual back-ups and restoration processes. Dual-role of providing information assurance support function for the Navy PPBE system and maintenance of the PBIS network's security with the requirements of DoD and Navy network environments. Involved in daily coordination of information assurance measures to ensure system configuration and software currency are in compliance with latest directives. Must be able to assist with authoring Authorization To Operate (ATO) documentation packages and submissions through the  RMF (and follow-on) process for PBIS. Evaluates requests for hardware and software; researches and recommends solutions to technology needs, compatible with the client's technology architecture and infrastructure and resource constraints. Involved in creation and publication of system description documentation and technical manuals related to system component configuration and operation. Maintain vender and trusted partner relationships. Documents and maintains standard operating procedures related to System Administration tasks. Communicates frequently orally and in writing with Navy customer on task progress and risks. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 7-9 years of applicable experience.  7-9 years of system administration of Microsoft Windows Server and Red Hat Linux operating systems with at least 2 years performing information assurance duties for an enterprise-wide DoD information system. Current DoD Top Secret clearance. Experience in data system back-up and recovery processes (tape drive and Symantec NetBackup) Must meet DoD IAWF certification requirements (i.e. CompTIA Security + and system certification, MCDST or higher). Must have experience managing Information Assurance requirements, including IAVA remediation, STIG applications and coordination with IAO for all system related security management. Must meet the DOD 8570.01-M baseline certification required for Information Assurance Technician (IAT) Level II. Desired Experience: DoD PPBE knowledge. Department of the Navy experience with experience in the NMCI environment. Excellent communication skills. Experience on Windows 2008,2012 and Linux (Red Hat) servers. Experience in data system back-up and recovery processes (tape drive and Symantec NetBackup) Experience with VMware virtual server environments. Apache Tomcat 7. IIS 7. Retina and ACAS Network Scanning tools. HBSS Experience with Vulnerability Remediation Asset Manager (VRAM)   PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Normal demands associated with an office environment. Ability to work on computer for long periods, and communicate with individuals by telephone, email and face to face. Some travel may be required.
