Job Description

What You’ll Get to Do:

The successful candidate will work directly with the client to help them refine and improve their contracting process related to expert witness support.  This will include creating and/or updating templates and other documents/tools used in the contracting and invoice review process, training DOJ attorneys and staff on the expert contracting process, developing and implementing a quality assurance and surveillance program for the section, and reviewing audit results and recommending responses/resolutions.

Additional duties may include the following: based on discussions with the Trial Staff and COR, plans, implements and oversees large and complex auditing investigations as required in support of litigation. Directs, provides guidance and advice, and reviews the work product of more junior Auditors and Financial Analysts to ensure that it meets the stated objectives of audit investigations.  

Reports to the Trial Staff and COR as required on the status of audit investigations; prepares interim and final written reports and recommendations based on the results of audit investigations. Reviews and analyzes financial and operating statements, records and other information in order to arrive at results and conclusions in accordance with the stated objectives of audit investigations.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Must be a Certified Public Accountant.  
  • MBA or equivalent in accounting or directly related field.  
  • Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and generally accepted auditing standards.  
  • Minimum of five years experience as an auditor; minimum three years specialized experience in the specific subject matter area involved:  federal government contracting.  
  • Extensive working knowledge of appropriate accounting and financial analysis ADP systems and applications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.  

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • Management experience helpful; experience in litigation environment, experience working with automated litigation support helpful.
  • Accounting or Finance experience in the federal government sector.
  • Experience developing and implementing a quality assurance program.
  • Experience designing and conducting surveillances as part of a quality assurance program.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Experience with Momentum®  (UFMS: Unified Financial Management System) is strongly desired.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, preferably with advanced functions of Excel.
